050 | [Situation] Near the W [West] side of St Mary's St. and in the N. [North] part of the town of Kirkcudbright. The Gasworks at Kirkcudbright were erected in 1839 by a joint stock Company of 320 Shares of £5 per Share. The Gasworks consists of the usal apparatus common to small works of the Kind, it has three retorts and one Gasometer, the coals used are the canal coal. Household burners are supplied at 11d per thousand cubic feet. The works are managed by a board of directors, and returns about 5 per cent to the proprietors. |
