A large ancient Moat on the farm of Saltflats, its Construction is partly natural and partly artificial, it is of an irregular oval shape & the remains of a rampart of Earth and Stones which encircled the Summit of the Small hill on which it is situated is now barely traceable The Stones which partly composed this rampart now lie in Masses Around the sides of the Eminence, & from their appearances have been evidently acted upon by fire, it is supposed from this Circumstance to have been a "Vitrified Fort" (the hill & remains of moat) is sometimes called the "Vitrified Fort" - but this is rarely, as it is almost universally called by the given name. | |

A naturally shaped eminence of a ridge-like shape extending from the Northside of Rough Island to near the H.W. [High Water] Mark near Rough Firth, it is inundated at every influx of the tide, its feature is composed of small Bolders and Shingle the latter partially mixed with Mussels. |
