This Ancient Tower (which is situated near the farm of Old Orchardton, the Estate of Mrs Robertson of Almorness) Is now in a ruinous condition it is built in a circular form, the diameter of its base is about 28 feet, the walls are 5 feet thick and peirced in various places with loop holes or slits for shooting arrows from. The height of the Tower is about 30 feet, near to it is the remains of a vault, which probably has had communication with the tower at one time. This Tower was the Ancient Baronial residence of a family of the name of Maxwell |
