A large mansion house in good repair the property and residence of Colonel Maxwell Esqr. It was built about 90 years ago by Sir Robert Maxwell, then proprietor, and Since underwent repairs and enlarged by the Late James Douglas Esqr., when he became proprietor, It is Situated on rising ground from which it Commands a splendid prospect of the neighbouring Scenery. Adjoining to its West are buitiful pleasure grounds intersected with walks and covered with ever greens and large Oak Trees - also adjacent to its West end is an Artificial Mound. Section thus --- in the centre of which on a Small pillar is a nicely cut and ornamented Sun Dial a little farther West is a beautiful Kitchen and flower garden attached to the East Wall of the former is an excellent Hot house - Turn Over |
