005 | [Situation] 34 Chains N.by W.[North by West] of Carsphairn village An ancient Cairn or tumulus of about 73 feet in diameter, on the farm of Lagwine and situated about 17 chains West of the road leading from Carsphairn to Dalmellington. Tradition is quite silent regarding it but similar ones has been [since] opened in this and the adjoining parishes, and Stones in the form of coffins containing human bones were turned up. A great part of the Stones are removed from this Cairn, for the purpose of building fences. - |
