FORT [Ballivulline] | Fort Fort Fort |
Mr David Glen Mr James Templeton, Whitehill Mr Charles McLean |
257 | On the summit of a small knoll on the farm of Ballivulline there are the remains of a circular building, which is considered by the authorities quoted to have been an ancient British fort. I was informed by James Templeton that a number of human bones were found, of a large size, by workmen while trenching the knoll to procure stones for building purposes. "Some years ago on the farm of Ballivulline, two miles north of Campbeltown, a place called the Forth was trenched, and a great many human bones of a large size dug up, which proved evidently that the people in those days were greatly superior in stature to those at present." Ordnance Survey - Argyll county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Argyll, which is in the west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
