[South East] of the Island of Canna also about 8 miles S.W. [South West] of the South end of the Isle of Skye. The postal Communication is by Armadale in Skye. There is no post office on the Island, neither is there a licenced house of any description; there is a Stone pier at Kinlochrum where landing is practicable at high-water; there is also a Small Church attended by the presbyterian Minister of Eigg. The inhabitants of the Island are few in number, chiefly Shepherds owing to the Island being one Sheep farm; the Sea Coast is exceedingly rocky & precipitous & the inland very mountainous. Rum is the property of Captn. [Captain] F. Campbell New Club, Edinburgh & is in the Parish of Small Isles & in the County of Argyll. |
