169 | The remains of an Ancient British or Danish fort. Close to Tayvallich on a rising ground towards the west. The walls have disappeared but traces of them are still visible. Its northern view is quite inaccessible and rocky, its western and Southern nearly so, while to the east there is a long and steep incline. The Stat: [Statistical] Acct: [Account] has the following remark respecting this object:- "On a hill near the Church of Tayvallich there are the remains of a fortification Called "Dùn a bheallich", or the fort of the pass. This fort was probably intended to serve the pass leading from the bay of Carsaig to that of Tayvallich. |
