139 | "There is a ruin on the northern banks of that lake called Fionn-chairn Castle which is pointed out as the residence of Mac Mhic Iain. It stands upon a rock, which rises up from the waters of the lake on one side, & is all around steep & rugged, without a pathway, so that it is entered by climbing with some difficulty. It is a square building of small dimensions, having an area in the centre, surrounded by what appears to have been rooms, or rather cells, one tier above another, & the uppermost of them roofed in by flags of a large size. Tradition says it was destroyed by fire, & the account given of it's fall is illustrative of the times." New Statistical Account |

Ordnance Survey - Argyll county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Argyll, which is in the west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
