100 | Tradition asserts this to be the site of the last stand made by McFadyen when retreating from Wallace, by whom he was first encountered in Glen Orchy, and forced back to this point where he was totally defeated. "MacPhaidan, an Irishman servicable to Edward I when attempting to subvert the independence of Scotland was attacked by Sir William Wallace and defeated A.D. 1300, at the N. [North] East side of Ben Cruachan, near the Pass of Brandir." 100 | After his defeat he is said to have crossed the Awe, by leaping on a stone in the centre of the river, known as McFadyen's stone, & from thence to the opposite bank; continuing his flight he reached a cave in the face of Creag an Aonaidh, where he was discovered by Duncan of Lorn, dragged out, & executed. |
