072 | A small Cave, in the face of a cliff, situated on the west side of the Island of Lismore, and about 150 yards south of "Uamh an Cathag". It is generally believed by the inhabitants, that there is an underground passage, leading from this Cave to the opposite side of the island; but it has never been proved. Sig. [Signification] "Men's Cave". "In the face of the rock and about a 1/2 mile apart, are two Caves of a square form about 20 feet wide. Between these there is a small one or what would appear to be the mouth of one, and, opposite to it, on the other side of the island there is a similar one, and, tradition says that these Caves are the ends of a subterranean passage running across the island" "Old Statistical Account" |
