Various | Kilcalmonell is the most northerly part of the peninsula of Kintyre, being bounded on the North by the isthmus at Tarbert. For a short distance it comprehends the whole breadth of the peninsula from Loch Tarbert on the West to Loch fine on the E [East] till separated from the latter by the narrow but long parish of Saddel and Skipness. The name is of Gaelic derivation, & signifies the burying-place of Malcolm O'Neill. Kilberry is situated in the district of Knapdale is separated from Kilcalmonell by West Loch Tarbert, and bounded by the sea on all sides except on the North where it is bounded by the parish of South Knapdale. The name is supposed to be derived from Cill-a-Mhairi. the burying-place of Mary. |
