087 | A large and handsome modern edifice, the mansion house of the owner of the estate of Ardchattan. It is situate about 1½ miles east of the Church and is erected on part of what was once the priory. In the erection of this house - or rather in digging the foundation for it - a great number of bones were unearthed. they were taken in Cartloads to the adjacent coast, & a large hole dug in the sand into which they were deposited. There is a fine garden attached to the house and a good piece of ornamental ground. |
