The authority for "Kenshot," or "Kinshot." Same as above. | 024.08 | " On an eminence bordering with Garvoch, called Kinchel, or more properly, King's Seat Hill, there is a large heap of Stones or Cairn, where, according to tradition a King sat in judgement, among other complaints, many were lodged against Melvile of Allardice, at that time Sheriff of the County for his oppression. The Royal judge, either wearied with the complainaners, or enraged at the offender Said, probably in a peevish humour, "I wish that Sheriff was Sodden and Supped in brose." Such was the Savage barbarity of the times, that the Barons, who were little accustomed to the formalities of a trial, laid hold of these words and put them literally in execution. The place where the deed was perpetrated, lies at the bottom of the hills on the side next to Garvoch, is not unlike the cavity of a kiln for drying corn, and still retains the name of the 'Sheriff's Kettle'."(See name sheet of Garvoch Ph [Parish])(Old. Stat. Acct. Vol. [Statistical Account Volume] 11 P [Page] 239) The above information has been obtained since the Plans of Garvoch Ph. [Parish] were forwarded. All that remains of the "Cairn," is the base. B. Render Corp. R.E. [Corporal Royal Engineers] 29/9/63 |

Ordnance Survey - Kincardine county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Kincardine, which is in the north east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
