026 | This name is applied to an Island situated about 2 1/2 miles north west from the north end of North Uist. It is about 1 1/2 miles in length and about 3/4 of a mile in breadth, three-fourths of the Island is fertile the remainder being good rough pasture. There are 32 families and a population of about 180. There is no school nor Church. Near the south east end of the Island can be traced part of a very ancient burying ground. About 3 chains west of the burying ground, there is a large stone with three vacuities on the top as if made by art. The property of Sir J. P. Ord Bart [Sir John Powlett Ord Baronet] Auchnaba House Lochgilphead. The island of Boreray belongs to the parish of North Uist. |
