McDonald, Factor Borve, Harris | 018 | This name applies to the southern division of the parish of Harris, that is, from the narrow isthmus at Tarbert, the road between East Loch Tarbert & west Loch Tarbert being the boundary. The east side of this portion of Harris is thickly inhabited by small tenant, who are living in very wretched houses, and make a living (in some cases very poor) between fishing & cultivating small patches of the land and grazing sheep & cattle. The ground along the whole of this side, i.e [that is] from Rodel to Tarbert is very inferior, affording very poor & scanty pasture, is very rocky, bumpy and almost covered with small lochs.
