These two parishes were united about 1570, but in 1676 were disjoined and Abertarff was Ecclesiastically united to Glenmoriston, but the Civil Sanction was not obtained, and therefore Abertarff was again annexed to Boleskine about the year 1688. It is bounded on the north west by Urquhart & Glenmoriston on the north and north east by Loch Ness and the parish of Dores and on the East by Daviot & Dunlichity and Kingussie & Moy. There is a detached portion of this parish between the parish of Dores & Daviot & Dunlichity, Co. [County] Nairn, and again there is a detached portion of Dores in the centre of Boleskine, which includes White Bridge and the shootings of Dell. The principal proprietors are Lord Lovat, J. M. Grant of Glenmoriston, Fraser of Abertarff and F. Walker Esq. of Foyers. This parish is in the Presbytery of Abertarff, Synod of Glenelg |
