[South West] of the Mains of Arisaig, in the former bed of a loch are the remains of an ancient lacustrine dwelling, consisting of large oak trees, laid at right angle to each other, and a number of piles, formed of unsquared oak driven into the bottom of the then existing lake, This was laid bare after the construction of a canal for the draining of the loch, anything known, concerning these ancient dwellings is entirely of a conjectural character. |
