011 ; 016 | [Situation] About 1 Mile South from Halls. A large tract of heathy pasture land along the Lammermuir Hills. It formerly belonged to the burgh of Dunbar hence the name. Being a common it belonged to no parish, but in 1831, by the authority of the Court of Session it was divided among different proprietors, who annexed their respective portions to the parishes in which their estates were Situated; it therefore now belongs to the parishes of Spott, Stenton and Whittingham. A portion was also allotted to the Burgh of Dunbar, but they shortly afterwards Sold it, and it is now comprehended in the above parishes. |
