006 | [Situation] About 3/4 Mile S.W. by S. [South West by South] from Tynninghame LinKs A large and elegant mansion house in the ornamental Gothic style, with offices, garden, &c attached, situated in an extensive and tastefully laid out demsne on the banks of the Tyne. This manor formerly belonged to the Bishops of St Andrews and was included in their regality lying on the South side of the Firth of Forth. In 1628 the Earl of Haddington obtained it by chartered right and it has ever since remained in the possession of that family. This estate is famed for the beauty of its woods. |

"Tynninghame-house stands between 2 and 3 furlongs
westard from the north bank of the Tyne. Though
a patchwork of pieces added by each of the successive
Earls, it had had its exterior walls so entirely re-edified
and re-modelled by the present Earl so as to possess uniquely
the appearance of a very large mansion in the old English
style. The interior retains, with little attection, its
