004 | A large and handsomely built mansion house with office houses all in good repair, and having a garden, and a large tract of other ornamental and wooded Demesne lands attached to it. It is the property and residence of the Earl of Wemyss. Within the last few years a large and handsome addition at front was built to the Mansion house and a few chains in front of it an entire new mansion house was built at an expense of one hundred thousand pounds. It is a large and handsomely constructed edifice but when nearly completed on account of some radical fault its completion was abandoned and a part of its walls was taken down to supply material for the improvements made to the old or present mansion. on a stone over the Door of the new building is the date 1800. |
