| BURIAL VAULT formerly St Bathan's Collegiate Church | St Bathans Church (Ancient) | 015 | The ancient church of St Bathans parish, situated near the mansion of Yester, and is now used only as a burial place, for the family of Yester and their connections. It is a small but very handsome building of red sandstone, and has been renewed at different periods. The nave bears the date 1635 but the Transept is more ancient. The pulpit which is made of beautifully carved oak and said to be more than 400 years old, it was removed to the present church of yester where it still is. In 1421 Sir William Hay of Yester converted this Church into a collegiate form, consisting of a provost 6 prebendaries and two singing boys. |
