014 | [Situation] Near the Western Division of the Co. [County] of Haddington A parish Situated about 15 Miles E. by S. [East by South] of Edinbro' [Edinburgh] in the Western division of Haddingtonshire, It is bounded on the north by the parishes of Gladsmuir and Haddington on the E. [East] by that of Bolton and on the S. & W. [South & West] by those of Humbie and Pencaitland. Its extreme length is about 3 3/4 Miles, in breadth nearly 3, and its superficial extent is about 8 Square Miles It has two villages namely East and West Salton so called from their relative situation to each other. The former of which being the most populous, and near the centre of the parish, contains the parish Church. Population in 1835. 790. Salton is in the Presbytery of Haddington. and Synod of Lothian & Tweeddale. Patron A. Fletcher Esqr, of Saltonhall. Stipend £271.6.10. Glebe £15. Unappropriated teinds £12.16.5 |
