Co. [County] Forfar -- Tannadice Ph. [Parish]

Mains [note]
There is a tradition that a Castle stood at the trees in the field on the East of the Mains
but according to the proprietor, who is familiar with the tradition, there never has been any foundations seen in his time - as
far back as fifty years & more. Monnipennie , in his enumeration of Castles & Towers of the County,
mentions "Wester Ogyall", which Mr. Jervoise, the author of " Memorials of Angus & Mearns" &c, in reply to a
communication on the subject, considers to have been the residence of one of the Cadets of the more
powerful Lords of the district, and that many other "Castles & Towers" noticed by Monniepennie were
similar.

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Angus, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
