O.S. [Ordnance Survey] Muirdrum
17th. May 1858

Revd [Reverend] Sir
Iwish to address you respecting
two antiquities in Panbride parish
about which I have been Speaking
to you -
First: the battle which you Suppose
to have been fought between Crombie=
= mill and the plantations north of
Panmure Ho. [House],. What authority have
you for supposing this battle to have
been fought within the limits
specified above?
Do you take your authority from any
old history?, and if so, can you
give the name of the book, and an
extract from it on which you base
Your Statement.
Will you also be good enough to
give an extract from the letter in
your possession, (received from a
gentleman of your acquaintance),
Specifying that the battle was fought
in the neighbourhood alluded
to above, - and the gentleman's
name -
Then I will have three authorities for
for fixing the site of the battle =
1st.: the history, (I beg to state that the
history, to become an authority
with us, must allude to the
neighbourhood in which
the battle was fought = otherwise,
it is an authority only for the
fact of a battle having taken
place, without at all assisting
to fix the site); 2nd. yourself,

Ordnance Survey - Angus county

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Angus, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
