031 | A small eminence on the farm of Purgavie, in which were some stone Coffins and Urns found by the late Mr. Fenton, father to the present tenant of Purgavie. "About ΒΌ mile N.N.E. [North North East] of the Church there is an artificial eminence whose summit commands an extensive prospect. On this spot a jibbet was erected for the unfortunate persons whom the servile court of a despotic baron condemned to death. Vestiges of the Hangmans habitation appear at the foot of the tumulus (cannot now be traced) and the name of a neighbouring plot of land perpetuates the memory of this infamous practice" Old. Stat. Ordnance Survey - Angus county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Angus, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
