048 | [Stuation] In the S. [South] Eastern portion of the parish. This Castle is now in a state of ruin. It is of the class of buildings usually Called Peel houses and was evidently built during the feudal times. It is of Considerable thickness. The roof and upper Storeys are quite demolished by the ravages of time and want of repair. The lower Storey is vaulted or arched and Consequently fire proof this part is used by the occupying tenant for such purposes as he finds Convenient. |

The family of Halliburton was very active in bringing
the Reformation of the Church of Scotland and had
an extensive property in this County. The Castle of
Pitcur a mile South of the Church and now in
ruins gave title to the ancient and honourable family
of Haliburton the Chief of that name
