| INVERKEILOR (continued) | [continued from page 1] passes through the Western extremity of this parish. The extent of the sea coast is about 5 miles: of which that along the bay of Lunan (which affords a safe anchorage for ships, except in a storm from the east) is flat & sandy, & overgrown with bent; but the coast on the South, is high & rocky, where there is a remarkable promontory, the Red Head (plan 41-14). This Cape is 45 fathoms in height. It is seen at a great distance from the Sea & abounds with a variety of Sea-fowls. At the Red Head there is an inexhaustible quarry of fine free-stone; & below the rocks, pebbles known by the name of Scots pebbles are numerous: among which there are some of the colour & density of an Amethyst. There is no portion of this parish detached, nor any portion of any other parish, contained within the boundary of this parish. |

Ordnance Survey - Angus county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Angus, which is in the east of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
