035 | " The Parish of Craig was of old called Inchbrayock from the Church of St. Braoch, which was situated upon an Island in the middle of the South Esk" Memorials of Angus & Mearns. Inchbrayock or Inchbroyock a word of Gaelic origin is supposed to signify "the island of trouts" &c. or according to another etymology "Inis Breic", the church or chapel Island, as the Church formerly stood on this island, & the spot is still occupied as the Parish burial-place. New Statl. [Statistical] Account "The villages" (of Craig) are Rossie Island, Usan & Ferryden, the last of which is of some importance.
