026 | A Standing [stone] of considerable antiquity on the farm of Easter Pitcorthie. It is a rude undressed block Standing in an upright position on the top of a small eminence and is about 7 1/2 ft. [Feet] high four feet broad and 2 feet thick. Nothing is locally known of its origin or the date of its erection to the present position. from local tradition it is supposed to have been erected over the grave of some Warrior. - during the present winter it was prop'd round, and the surface dug up by Mr. Russell the present farmer of Pitcorthie. it was found to be sunk about 2 feet in the ground and under it was found a small quantity of ashes and a few small fragments of bones supposed to be human - these with the soil dug from about it were again placed in their former position, no weapons or remains or any such were found, - close by it is a Trignl.
