026 | [situation] In the eastern portion of the Co. [County] of Fife. A small parish in Fifeshire, on the sea shore, west of St. Monans. It originally formed part of the parish of Kilconquhair, from which it was disjoined in 1639. In length it is two miles from east and west, and nearly 1 in breadth from north to south. It is bounded partly by the Firth of Forth which here forms the bay of Ely, and partly by the parish of St. Monance in the south; by the same parish on the east; and by the parish of Kilconquhar on the west. There are no hills, and scarcely a rising ground in the parish. the whole surface being flat, and a considerable part of it near the sea shore forming sandy links. The village of Elie is situated on the sea shore and is a burgh of barony. The parish church is in the village. This parish is in the presbytery of St. Andrews and Synod of Fife. Patron Sir. W.C.
