A deep ravine through part of which the East Burn flows its sides are generally steep and thickly wooded it is intersected near its southern extremity by the Edinburgh Perth & Dundee Railway at about 15 chains North of the Railway the den forms three branches the principle one of which is that leading to the North East passing Panny well there are streams or burns in each of branches commonly called by the inhabitants the Den Burns.
