015 | [situation] 7/8 Mile S.W. [Southwest] of Netherton. A small market town on the Great North Road between Kinross and Perth and only two miles distant from the former town. Its principal manufacture is the weaving of Shawls, worsted and cotton weaving by handlooms. There are six cattle Markets or Fairs annually and a corn market weekly on Wednesday. There are a few tolerably good Inns and several licensed houses for the sale of spirits. A brewery large corn Mill and only one Public Building, the Town Hall lately erected. There is a Post Office in connection with Kinross one delivery and despatch daily. |
