| COVENANTERS' CAVE | Covenanters Cave Covenanters Cave Covenanters Cave |
Revd. [Reverend] Alexander McLaren Manse Mr David Dandie Parish School John Clement Milton of Blebo |
011 | [situation] About 1 mile N. by W. [North by West] from Pitscottie. The entrance to this Cave is in the face of perpendicular rocks on the East side of Dura Den. The cave is not very large, and the marks of a pickaxe show it has been smaller. There are two traditions connected with it. The one told me by the minister of the parish is, that the Laird of Kemback, himself a Covenanter hid a few of his friends here; the other is that the Laird himself was hid here from the fury of the persecutors of the Covenanters. But both traditions agree in stating that the Lady of Kemback, for the Crime of Ministering to the necessities of the concealed, was hung by the hair of her head over the Bridge of Dairsie A stone with her initials marks the spot of her cruel death. |

Ordnance Survey - Fife and Kinross counties
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the counties of Fife in the east of Scotland and Kinross in central Scotland. The boundaries of these counties were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
