004; 009 | [situation] In the South Western portion of the County of Fife. A small parish consisting of two detached portions. The northern division is bounded on the north by the river Tay on the east, south and west by the parishes of Abernethy and Abdie. The southern division is bounded on the east, north and west by the parish of Abdie on the south by Collessie and a detached portion of Abernethy. This parish has the royal burgh of Newburgh of which see descriptive remarks in an adjoining name book. It is in the presbytery of Cupar and Synod of Fife. Patrons the Earl of Mansfield and Hay of Leys. There is a detached portion of the parish of Abdie in the western side of the parish of Newburgh. There are no other detached portions of parishes connected with Newburgh but the forementioned. |
