"North of Petenbroigh and on the very boundary of the Shire near where some roads meet is a large Stone called the hurl Stone. The Stone is hard whinstone but has a hole in it into which it is said the standard for the weight of a great fair at one time belonging to Abernethy and held here was inserted, it is said the fair was principally for the sale of Wool which was weighed at this stone." Ordnance Survey - Fife and Kinross counties

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the counties of Fife in the east of Scotland and Kinross in central Scotland. The boundaries of these counties were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
