009 | [situation] About 2 chains N.E. [North East] of Lindores House. The site of an old Castle on the East of Lindores, and close by Lindores House, the site of it is now planted with trees but the surface earth is a mixture of fragments of broken stones and lime morter, such debris as commonly exist when a building is removed from. Close bye it is a cave supposed to have formerly been a Cellar in connection with the Castle. The Castle is said to have been a baronial residence belonging to a family named Makgill. there is no local Knowledge of the date at which it was erected or became a ruin and was removed. |
