004 | [situation] North side of High Street This is the parish Church of Newburgh, It is a large and neat Gothic Structure Ornamented With butresses and with a Small belfry Surmounted with pinnacles. it is well fitted up with galleries pews .&. it Contains 1000 Sittings It was built in the year 1833 on the site of St. Catherine's Chapel. this latter was taken down in the year 1832. and was first built and used as a Roman Catholic Chapel of ease. in Connection with the Ph [Parish] Chapel of Abdie, from the reformation till its removal as above it was used as a Ph [Parish] Church. And it Stood within the present one which is much larger than it was adjoining it and within a stone wall which encloses the church is a Small burying ground now disused. |

parish of Abdie there being a chapel within the burgh
dedicated to St Catharine besides the church of the
monastery of Lindores in the immediate neighbourhood."

The parish church is an old Popish chapel situated
within the town of Newburgh which in consequence
of a late thorough repair has been made a very convenient
