004 | [situation] South side of High Street. A large house two stories high and in good repair. It has an octagon tower at the north side, which is surmounted by a spire. There is a town clock in the tower but there are no dials on it. It is bearing date 1808. the time of its erection. There is a small hall and two side rooms on the top flat, a council room, two small cells for prisoners, and apartments for the Town Officer on the ground flat. Robert Burns is the Town officer. Besides the weekly court held by the magistrates and the town council; the Sheriff of Cupar holds a court here once a quarter. |
