A small but neatly built dwelling house in good repair, and the property of Mr. Atkin, farmer of Carnbee. it is rented for a dwelling and school house and used for both purposes by a Mrs. Brown a teacher the School is attended by an average of about 40 male & female children. the branches taught are reading, writing and sowing & knitting. The School Mistress receives besides Scholars fees as sum of £12 yearly besides an allowance of fuel. this yearly allowance is contributed by Mr. Hogg proprietor of Arncroach, Sir R.A. Anstruther of Balcaskie & Lord W.K. Douglas of Grange Muir & R. G. Smythe Esq. of Gibliston House. |
