018; 019; 025; 026 | [situation] In the Eastern portion of the County of Fife. This parish is about 3 1/2 English miles long, and nearly 2 broad: bounded on the East by Kilconquhar; on the west by Largo; by parts of both these parishes on the north; and on the south by the sea. The soil is in general fertile, the view extensive and the scenery variegated. Its ancient name was Drumeldry. At a period less remote. that of Newburn was assigned to it; probably from the circumstance of a small rivulet which runs through a considerable part of the parish, having changed its course. The parish church is commodious and conveniently situated, and was built in 1815. Besides the usual legal endowments from the parish, the parochial schoolmaster has a liberal allowance for teaching poor children, in virtue of a mortification of the estate of Orkie in 1658, by John Wood Esqr.
