036 | An old building on the eastern margin of Otterston Loch, the greater part of which is ruin. the northern end is still used as a Barn by the farmer who occupies the adjoining Steading. it appears to have extended a little further on the South, as its track is easily traced. It would appear it has been a place of very little importance as History& tradition say nothing respecting it further than (Revd. [Reverend] H Ralph, Dalgety Manse informed me) a Mr Blair a celebrated character in the reign of Charles 2nd was coming here for some time. Mention is made in a History of the Moubray Family (in possession of William Moubray Esqr.) that a lady of the family of Logan of "Couston Castle" married a member of the Moubray family in the year 1666. Revd. [Reverend] Mr Ralph was unable to discover any way of ascertaining the date of its erection or anything connected with it, more than stated above. |
