[West] of Craigton An extensive tract of moss Situated in the parishes of Beath, Aberdour, etc. Its eastern limits extending to within a short distance of the farm house of Craigton, the whole is claimed by the Earl of Moray and Admiral Wemyss, the country people in general call it Moss Marran, the Rev. [Reverend] Mr. Walsh States that the Rev. [Reverend] Mr. Ferguson of Beath and himself consider its proper name to be "Moss Morran" which means the great moss. Whilst the Factor for the Earl of Moray States its name as Moss Marion which is the way the name is Spelled on the Map of the parish of Aberdour made in 1840. |
