035 | [Situation] On the N. [North] side of the Nave of the Abbey church Inside of the Nave of the Old Abbey church is a neat monument against the north wall, to the memory of Robert Pitcairn, styled Commendator, and sometimes Abbot of Dunfermline Abbey, On it is the following inscription in Latin, "To Mr Robert Pitcairn Abbot of Dunfermline, Archdeacon of St Andrews, Royal Legate and Secretary of his Majesty." "Here is interred the hero Robert Pitcairn in a plain urn, the hope and pillar of his country, whom virtue, gravity, worthy of a generous heart, and fidelity with sincere piety adorn. After various changes of life he now with the mass of his body left behind, proceeds to the Elysian groves", He died in the year 1584, on the 18th October aged 64," -- Abridged from Chalmers Hist [History] of Dunfermline P.
