031; 032; 036; 037 | [Situation] On the Coast of The Firth of Forth and the County of Fife A parish in the county of Fife, bounded on the Northeast by the parish of KirKcaldy, On the Southeast by the Frith of Forth, on the Southwest by Kinghorn and on the Northwest by that of Auchterderran. The parish of Auchtertool touches it on the west, The parish is of an irregular shape, its greatest length from the coast to the Northwest is about 4 miles, and its breadth which varies much at different points, averages about 2 miles. It is in general throughout well deversified with cultivated fields and Plantations, &c. This parish is said to have derived its name from an Abbot of Dunfermline having built a country house near the site of the present Church. A fine Yew tree within the gardens of Raith is thought to marK the locality of the Abbot's Hall, |
