[situation] Part of the town of Kirkcaldy. A district or locality close to and adjoining the Frith of Forth extending from the Parish of Kirkcaldy to that of Kinghorn. The principle Street is the continuation of the High Street of Kirkcaldy which with the Wynds or Lanes branching off it are narrow the houses in general are of a mean description and occupied principally by weavers. In this locality are two Flax Mills an extensive pottery and the Kirkcaldy Gas Works. Linktown is a Burgh of Regality and was formerly governed by a Baron Bailie at present there is not an officer of that description the local affairs are managed by 9 commissioners for Paving Lighting Police etc under the act of Wm. [William] 4th. The inhabitants in their general conversation call the locality the Links. The locality is bounded on the East by the Frith of Forth on the North by the Balwearie Road on the west by Newtown & Kirkcaldy & on the South by the West Burn or Tiel Burn. |
