A very large building extending from the south side of George Street to Rose Street. It was erected in 1787 by public subscription, and recently a handsome Doric arcade was built to its front. The interior is well fitted out and suitable for the purposes of the institution. There is one ball room 92 ft. [feet] long 42 broad and 40 in height, on the ground floor is a supperoom of the same length & breadth as the ball room, Two halls 32 ft [feet] by 18, 6 rooms 18 feet square, with a spacious Kitchen and other conveniences. There is also a Saloon 22 ft [feet] in diameter a tea room two card rooms, retiring rooms, waiting rooms, and a large Musicians hall. Public Meetings and Dinners are mostly held here. | |
