A long and wide Street leading from St. Andrews Square in a Westerly direction to Chalotte Square, It is one of the most elegant streets in the city. At its East end in St. Andrews Square Stands Lord Melvilles Monument, where the Street is intersected by Hanover St, is the Statue of George IV, a little farther West at the crossing of Frederick [St.] Stands the Statue of William Pitt, and at the west end of it in Charlotte Square is St. George's Church. The houses are partly occupied as Shops of various descriptions besides a few public buildings such as Churches Banks &c, and the houses inhabited by respectable and independent families, professional Gentlemen &c. This Street is well paved lighted with gas and having a flagged causeway on each side In this Street are a number of Insurance Offices of various [kinds] |
