[Situation] At the west side of Charlotte Square A large and handsome edifice of an oblong shape with a handsome portico in front of four Ionic Columns resting on an elevated basement & 35 feet in height. The building is surmount-ed by a dome 150 feet high which is a miniature representation of St. Pauls in London This build-ing is from a design by Mr. Robert Reid & cost £33,000 It was founded in 1811 & opened for public worship in 1814 It is capable of containing a congregation (with seats) of 1650 There are 33 seats [appriated] as free seats to the poor, It is a parish church & is a single charge. |
