This name applies to an ancient village which originally belonged to the canons of Holy=rood, It is situated on the North side of the New Town, The houses mostly seem to be very old. and in bad repair. occupied by people employed in the flour mills which are situated in the village and probably gave rise to the name, there are a few new streets formed and houses built and in progress of building here, which in a short time will alter it much for the better._ |
